Civic Activists want New PMC chief to address Road Digging issue in Pune on a priority basis

Even as Vikas Deshmukh has taken over as the commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), it's literally a rough road ahead for him.
The PMC road department is busy with road digging work across the city. The civic activists and citizens said that he should look into improving the road quality on a priority basis.
It was the road digging work that had caused maximum damage to the roads during last year's monsoon due to which PMC had to face the wrath from all corners of the city. PMC had to undertake road repair work on war footing.
PMC, however, has started digging the roads from the beginning of this year.
Yuvraj Deshmukh, a PMC official with the road department, said, "Presently, the major work which is being carried out on city roads is for laying out cables for CCTV installation. Besides, work for laying water pipeline is also being carried out at some places. The work is expected to get over by March end."
However, civic activists are blaming PMC administration for carrying out road digging work repeatedly.
Maj Gen (Retd) SCN Jatar, president of Nagarik Chetana Manch said, "It shows that the civic body does not have any planning in place. The first thing new that the PMC commissioner shall address is to bring in some discipline in terms of executing work. It was due to road digging that the city roads were plagued with potholes during monsoon. Not only the roads, discipline is needed in other departments like water supply, solid waste management, etc."
Vasant More, MNS leader in PMC, said, "We are going to take up the issue with the new commissioner and ask him to look into the bad quality of roads."
