Pune: Irked by a flimsy response to a show-cause notice issued to a woman employee for neglecting her duties, the new commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Rajeev Jadhav, suspended one of his gate inspectors — Maya Suryakant Geete, on Friday. The gate inspector's job was to keep a check on illegal constructions and structures next to advertising hoardings.
Jadhav, who succeeded Dr Shikar Pardeshi in February 2014, has been doing rounds in the twin township to inspect the condition of roads, footpaths, pavements, illegal hoardings and constructions. It was during one such visit on April 1, that he spotted a shed being constructed illegally in the Phugewadi area.
It was Geete's responsibility to keep a check on such unauthorised structures, failing which a show-cause notice was issued, but her reply wasn't satisfactory, PCMC officials said. Geete cited election duties as reason for not alerting the corporation officials about the development. Engineers belonging to Geete's department are also likely to face inquiry, corporation officials said.
