Confidence of the city Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) unit has been boosted after Ajit Pawar was re-inducted into the state cabinet on Friday.

The city NCP leaders, who have been staunch supporters of Ajit Pawar, opine that with Ajit Pawar at the helm of affairs in the cabinet, the party’s tally in the upcoming Assembly elections will improve.

Rank and files in the party that won the Zilla Parishad elections, municipal councils and municipal corporations across the state over the last couple of years were feeling powerless, as Pawar was being criticised vehemently by the opposition parties.

With the White Paper on irrigation irregularities giving a clean chit to Pawar, the party is now all set to gain political mileage on this issue.

Ruling the PMC and Zilla Parishad at present, the NCP’s next target is to claim more seats in the Pune Assembly and the Pune Lok Sabha seat, which is held by Congress’ Suresh Kalmadi.

MLC Anil Bhosale, a staunch supporter of Ajit Pawar said, “Ajit Pawar’s inclusion in the state cabinet will boost the confidence of party workers and he being deputy chief minister will help to push the important infrastructure projects for the development of the city.”

He added, “We have maximum number of corporators in Pune, so we will definitely demand for more share for the seats in Pune for the Assembly elections under the leadership of Ajit Pawar.”
