Pune: After making an appeal for a dry Holi and Rang Panchami celebrations to curtail water wastage, NCP’s art, culture and literature wing went on a moral policing drive, forcing several organisers to wind up their Holi parties.
PMC school board member and in-charge of the NCP wing, Laxmikant Khabiya said that the city unit did so to ensure that sacredness of the festivities is not lost, and hence decided to take action against such parties. He said that a team of around 200 party workers kept a vigil in the city, and raided spots where parties celebrating Holi involved consuming liquor.
Sunny Mankar, the city unit president told dna that the city unit had written a letter to the police commissioner’s office in advance, against permitting such Holi celebrations involving alcohol. He said that although few permissions were given for partying in the city, the party workers found out about one such celebration in Lawns, Kothrud, forcing the organisers to wind it
