Waiting for buses at Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) Nashik Phata bus stop on the Nashik-Pune highway during monsoon has become a nightmare for commuters. There is no proper shed for passengers and the place where buses stop to pick up is waterlogged and filthy.

The situation has worsened this year due to the ongoing work of Nashik Phata flyover. Neither MSRTC nor the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken any step to improve the bus stop.

Nashik Phata is a major stop on the Pune-Nashik route. It is just off the Pune-Mumbai National Highway (NH-4). The buses plying between Pune and destinations like Nashik, Narayangaon and Rajgurunagar halt here. Since the population of these towns is increasing rapidly, there is huge rush at the Nashik Phata bus stop.

The bus stop never had a shed before. After the Nashik Phata flyover work began, MSRTC set up a ticket counter under the flyover, and now passengers wait near this counter on highway for buses.

“There was never a bus shed at Nashik Phata, but at least the place where people have to wait for buses should be clean,” Sanchin Nighojkar, a software professional, who takes a bus from this stop daily, told dna.

Taking note of the complaints, PCMC engineering department spokesperson Shirish Poredi said, “We will inform the drainage department and get the area cleaned as early as possible.” He said that it was actually MSRTC’s responsibility to provide a clean bus shed and sitting arrangement for passengers.

When contacted, Pune divisional controller of MSRTC, Ashok Jadhav said, “We had given a letter to local MLA Vilas Lande in this regard and requested him to take initiatives to set up a proper bus shed like the one at Chinchwad on Pune-Mumbai highway. He has shown willingness to erect the shed.”

MSRTC officials said that they could not construct a bus shed at Nashik-phata because they did not own the land.
