Pune: Minister for Rural Development Jayant Patil on Monday said that cloud seeding was not the best option even if it does not rain in the coming few days. According to him, cloud seeding does not give expected results.
While speaking to the media after inaugurating the Sanitation Dindi and Gramsabha Dindi at Council Hall, which are travelling with Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palakhi and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palakhi for the last nine years to create awareness about sanitation and importance of village meeting for decentralisation of power. Pune Zilla Parishad President Dattatray Bharane, Solapur Zilla Parishad President Nishigandha Mali, the principal Secretary to the department of Rural Development department S S Sandhu, divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh, district collector Saurabh Rao were present.
Replying to a question about lack of rainfall and whether the government should explore possibilities such as cloud seeding, Patil said that the process has not been so successful before since it had resulted in minimal rains. And taking in to account the expenditure incurred, it would not be an advisable alternative.
Patil said that the two Dindis of Sanitation and Gramsabha would create awareness about these two issues among almost five lakh pilgrims on the route of Palakhis. He said that there are 21 Tableaus in both these Dindis for sending across message of sanitation and Gramsabha.
