Pune: Bollywood actor-producer Amol Palekar, who was unable to cast his vote in the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday after his name went missing from the voters' list, approached the Deccan police station and filed a complaint on Saturday.
Palekar has asked the police to investigate whether his name has been deliberately deleted from the list. The police have forwarded his plaint to the district returning officer for a probe.
Senior police inspector of Deccan police station, P A Chougule, said, "We have received Palekar's complaint and forwarded the same to the returning officer for necessary action. We will take action only after receiving the probe report."
Apart from Palekar and his wife Sandhya, thousands of citizens including prominent personalities like police commissioner Satish Mathur, executive director of Grahak Peth Suryakant Pathak, president of Srimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, Ashok Godse, former deputy mayor Dr Satish Desai and others were not able to find their names in the voters' list on the election day.
After receiving hundreds of complaints, district collector Saurabh Rao has submitted his report to the Election Commission (EC).
Various political parties have demanded the EC to order fresh polls in the Pune constituency.
EC to complete probe in 3 days
Pune: The Election Commission (EC) will complete its inquiry into the issue of deletion of names of about one lakh voters from electoral rolls of Pune Lok Sabha seat in three days.
A delegation of the mega-alliance of BJP-Shiv Sena and other parties met the deputy election commissioner Sudheer Tripathi at the Chief Election Commissioner's office in New Delhi on Saturday evening. BJP candidate Anil Shirole said that Tripathi assured the delegation of conducting an inquiry in three days and taking appropriate action against those responsible for the goof up. (P-3)
