Man cheated of Rs42,000 in online credit card fraud case

Suspects posing as bank officials obtained password and other details from him

The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have booked two New Delhi-based persons who posed as private bank officials and procured credit card details including the password from a 39-year-old man and duped him of Rs42,000. 

Though the incident occurred on July 27 and was reported to the cyber crime cell of Pune police, they failed to get clues and have referred the case to Bharati Vidyapeeth police.

After the incident, the victim had got his card blocked immediately and submitted an application in this regard.

The duo were identified as Dharmendra Kumar Harinarayan Tiwari (18) and Harinarayan Bapu Prasad (40), both residents of 633, A1, Chachi Mandir in Baljitnagar locality of New Delhi.

A complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim, Santosh Vishnudas Suryavanshi (39), a resident of Dhankawadi.

According to the police, one of the suspects called up the victim on November 23, informing him that he was from HDFC Bank and gave his name as Rohit Gupta. The suspect told him he had activated his online shopping facility on the said card and procured confidential information from him including the password.

Suryavanshi later received an SMS from HDFC Bank on Thursday which said he had made an online shopping transaction to the tune of Rs42,000. He called up the HDFC customer care and requested them to immediately block the card and the transaction, the police said.
