The 14-year-old girl came home late in the night. It was almost dawn.
“They kidnapped me, raped me,” she told her worried parents when they curiously asked her. They were already scared as she turned home at such an unearthly hour, after a whole day and whole night’s disappearance.
The family’s residence is in Bund Garden, under the Yerawada police’s jurisdiction. The standard IX student of went missing from her house on Friday. Her parents had lodged a missing complaint with the police. The girl’s father is in the construction line. She came home the next day, around 4 am.
The police had searched her for the whole night. When she came back, she said she was forcefully dragged inside a car in Kharadi area and was sexually abused by a gang of three men.
It turned out to be a one-sided love of a girl too young for a relationship, who fell for a software techie. The police discovered that the girl cooked up the kidnap-and-rape to escape her parents’ wrath. But she was oblivious that her folly kept the poor policemen on toes for more than 24 hours.
Assistant PI Madhukar Salunke who investigated the case said, “We subjected her to a medical check up. We also immediately started preparing a sketch of the suspects. One of our team members inspected the spot and scrutinised the nearby CCTV camera footage. The girl was not seen in any footage, nor a car was seen in the area she stated. Meanwhile, the medical reports were also negative. We then started interacting with the girl and then she spilled the beans.”
The girl had a crush on a young software engineer who hails from Uttar Pradesh and lives in her area, Salunke said. During the past six months, their faces became familiar to each other and they occasionally smiled and even waved to each other. The girl said she was in love with him and took his gestures to be his love for her. On Friday, she went to his house, which was locked. He lives there on a rental basis with a roommate. “She waited for him till he came back late in the night. As soon as she saw him, she proposed to him saying she was ready to run away with him. He explained to her that it was not possible as she was too young. He then convinced her to go back to her home.”
Since it was too late to return home, she hid herself in the backyard. Till the wee hours, around 4 am, she managed to stay there, but started shivering because of cold and finally went home, Salunke told dna. “She also tried to end her life, but we counselled her against it. Considering her tender age and the circumstances that she faced, we did not lodge any complaint against her and even warned her parents not to scold or beat her up.”
