Pune: While the farmers from different parts of the state are yet to recover from the losses incurred due to massive hailstorm, Saswad witnessed a short spell of hailstorm and untimely rain on Wednesday morning.
Most parts of the state and some states of central India had witnessed tremendous hailstorm in March for more than two weeks damaging crops particularly in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
On Wednesday, hailstorm was witnessed in the area from Saswad to Jejuri. Sunil Kale, one of the farmers who was in Saswad, said, “Clouds gathered in the afternoon and at 5 pm it started raining along with the hailstorm. The hailstones were big in size and it rained for almost an hour.”
The India Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in Pune for the next 48 hours.
“A low pressure area is spread from Pakistan to Tamil Nadu due to which there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in parts of Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha region. For Pune, rain and thundershowers are expected in the next 48 hours,” an IMD official said.
