Hosp refuses to admit girl with no money, Sena hold dharna

Pune: One could witness high drama at Ruby Ailcare of Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital over a heart surgery of a girl on Friday.
Shiv Sena Workers held a dharna at the hospital alleging that the hospital administration allegedly refused to perform heart surgery as parents of the girl did not have the money for the surgery.
Shiv Sena workers decided to collect money on behalf of the family and asked the administration to admit the girl in the hospital.
Archana Shelke, a 14-year-girl from Beed was brought to the hospital following some complications in her heart. However, her parents claimed that the hospital authorities refused to admit the girl as they did not have enough money to deposit in the hospital.
Later, some family members contacted local Shiv Sena leaders following which they gathered at the hospital and held dharna, demanding that the hospital should admit the girl.
Sulbha Ubale, Shiv Sena corporator, said, "The hospital administration asked parents of Archana to pay Rs4 lakh the money for surgery. However, since the family had only Rs50,000 the hospital authorities refused to perform surgery. They also cancelled her admission and asked them to leave the hospital. The family members contacted Sena workers. We immediately gathered at the hospital and demanded the hospital authorities to perform surgery and that time the hospital authority brought down the estimate to Rs2.80 lakh. We made the hospital administration to admit the girl back in the hospital and decided to contribute to the surgery. On the same day, we contributed Rs50,000 and gave it to the hospital authorities."
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have made it clear that the facilities under Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana are not applicable for heart ailment.
