Interrogation of two history-sheeters who were arrested in an arms smuggling case by the Pune anti-terrorism squad (ATS) has revealed a chain of arms dealings in the state.

The ATS is also trying to establish their links with the sensational murder of anti-superstition crusader Dr Narendra Dabholkar. dna, in its November 30 edition, had highlighted the arrest of two history-sheeters by the ATS.

The ATS had arrested Manish Nagore and Ravindra alias Gotya Mane from Satara and Kolhapur respectively in an interstate arms case. Later they revealed the name of three criminals who were serving jail sentences in Thane Jail.

On Saturday evening, they were produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) and were remanded in custody of the ATS till November 7. The three jail inmates who were arrested from Thane jail are in ATS custody till November 5.

The assistant public prosecutor argued, “During investigation it has been revealed that Mane and Nagore used to smuggle guns from Madhya Pradesh border and give them to three jail inmates who used to sell them. ATS has recovered 23 firearms from them.”
Defence lawyers Nitin Nikam and Laxman Nanawade objected to the custody plea, claiming they are falsely implicated in this case and the Mumbai ATS has already interrogated them.
