Here, creativity is shaped up into artistic wonders

Over 500 students exhibit more than 3,000 art works at BVBKM exhibition.

More than 500 students of city’s Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Bharat Kala Mahavidyalaya (BVBKM), College of Fine Arts, exhibited over 3,000 art works at their Annual Art Exhibition-2013 recently. The exhibition received an overwhelming response as people from various sections of the society attended it.

The three-day art exhibition, which was held at New Art Gallery on Ghole Road, turned out to be treat to the students and the art fraternity. Eminent national artist from Chennai and former chairman of Lalit Kala Academy, RB Bhaskaran inaugurated the exhibition.   
The art works were exhibited by students from applied, painting and sculpture departments at BVBKM.

Sculpture Department Head at BVBKM, Sunil Deshpande, said, “The art exhibition was one-of-its-kind and the students’ art works manifest the college’s top position in the country.”

One of the attractions of the expo was the collection of chalk carving, done by 1st year Bachelor of Fine Arts student, Sagar Babare. His chalk carvings included creative figures, designs of gods and goddesses in different postures. Talking about his mastery over chalk carving, Sagar said that he was inspired by carpenters carving on wooden pieces.

“I thought of implementing the same on a chalk piece. I have always loved drawing, carvings and creating fun things when I was younger,” he said. Today, he says that he can sculpt any figure on a chalk in two hours.

Another work of art that caught onlookers, curiosity was the huge art models using metal scraps. About the metal art sculptures, Deshpande said, “The scrap metal was lying in one of the godowns of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). They allowed us to take the metal pieces to create art sculptures. We have created around six huge art sculptures using the scrap metal pieces.”

He added that these art structures will be given back to the PMC to be used for display at any public place in the city.    

Principal, BV’s College of Fine Arts, Anupama Patil, said that the college has secured 9th position among the Top Ten Art Colleges in India in the Nelson Survey done by India Today in 2012.

“The platform facilitated students to showcase their year-long work and boosts their confidence to enter the professional field in future. It also helps students in seeking placement in design and advertising industry,” she said.

The Annual Art Exhibition is organised every year, which attracts large number of visitors, including  students from various fine art colleges, eminent personalities from art field and art lovers.
