With the monsoon setting in, Puneites’ small trips to Lonavla for fun and frolic is a common feature, especially during the weekends.

However, this year, your journey to the hill station has to be a cautious one.

In order to stop incidents of drunk driving, road rage, accidents, nuisance and eve teasing at the tourist spot, the Pune rural police has decided to beef up the vigilance in the area.
Lonavla is one of the favourite tourist destinations with just 60 km away from Pune and around 110 km from Mumbai. Especially during the monsoons, the number of tourists visiting the place increases.

Additional superintendent of police (Pune rural) Vijaykumar Magar said, “We have observed that many tourists come to Lonavla to enjoy the rain. However, many of them consume liquor without liquor permits which is illegal. We will take action against them under relevant sections. We have also decided to set up temporary check posts at various entry points to Lonavla.”

“At every check post, policemen will check documents like driving license and vehicle registration papers. In case people are carrying liquor, they will have to furnish liquor permits to the policemen. If they fail to do so, they will be denied entry. Moreover, we will also depute separate patrolling teams during the weekend. Stringent action will be taken against those found consuming liquor in the open,” Magar added.

Besides, the police have also put up signboards advising people of following safety measures. “We expect that these measures will curb road accidents, cases of road rage and eve teasing,” he added.

“We do not want to restrain people from enjoyment, but they should follow the rules. We also urge people to park their vehicles at the allocated parking lot. This will reduce the traffic congestion in the area,” said Magar.
