Here’s good news for all those who want to party on December 31 night: The state government has given permission for partying till 5 am on January 1.With this decision, restaurants, hotels, clubs and permit rooms would be open till 5 am on January 1.

The home department has issued a government resolution (GR) in this regard during the fag end of the winter session of the state assembly at Nagpur. The GR, dated December 19, states that the Indian Hotel and Restaurants Association had requested the government to allow them to keep their hotels, restaurants and permit rooms open till late night since people celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The GR states that all these establishments will be allowed to do business for the additional time.

The government made it clear that the establishments would have to keep in mind the law and order around the establishments.

The entertainment tax branch incharge at the district collector’s office, Mohini Chavan said 50 establishments have applied for permission for entertainment programmes on December 31.

She said any programme at any of these establishments which would be charged tickets has to avail permission from the entertainment tax branch. The organisers would have to pay 20 per cent of the ticket rate or the entry pass price towards entertainment tax to the department.

The GR stated that while organising entertainment programmes for celebrating New Year’s Eve, the use of loud speakers has to be within permissible limits as per SC verdict.
