Making classroom learning more exciting and moving away from the conventional blackboards and textbooks is the new advanced interactive whiteboards. An erasable whiteboard with an attached wall mounted LCD projector or with a base stand is the new 'in' thing in city schools.

It is not just user-friendly but also turns into a projector viewable by an entire classroom. The content is controlled by the teacher using a remote unlike the regular methods of scrolling using a keyboard or mouse. This audio-visual medium has a greater impact than mere mugging up from the textbooks.

Many city schools have installed this new technology in order to enhance the teaching experience.

“There's definitely a tremendous change in the overall experience because of the interactive whiteboard. The audio-visual method catches the interest of the students. Teachers find it interesting since the involvement of the students increases. This motivates the teacher to improvise on planning and teaching,” said Abhas Niphadkar, executive director, City International School and Pimpri's Wisdom School.

The interactive whiteboard enriches diagrams and statistics by providing real life images with 2D and 3D effects.

“Introduction of the interactive whiteboard has created a revolution. Learning becomes instinctive using digitalisation of information. It becomes easier to explain a concept unlike earlier times. For the child to understand and the teacher to teach everything is simple. It also becomes simple for the child to remember the subject in discussion during exams as you obviously tend to recall something you've seen faster than what you heard,” said Dr Robbin Ghosh, founder-president, Victorious Kidss Educares. (http://www.victoriouskidsseducares.org).

Simran Kaur, principal, Podar International School (http://www.podar.org) says it has gone beyond the chalk book era. Learning process in terms of class atmosphere has radically changed for the better.

“It is easy today for the children to learn and the teachers to teach. Earlier, student's concentration was put to test expecially for those aged between 5-9 years. The classroom has now become interesting interactive sessions,” she added.

Students too are asking more questions as they understand concepts better. They can co-relate with the practical world.

With such satisfied response, DAV Public School would be soon installing interactive smartboards.

“It makes the teaching process easy as the teacher has the templates ready,” said CV Madhavi, principal, DAV Public School. (http://www.davaundhpune.com).
