Four employees of a software firm were killed and two others seriously injured when their Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) jumped over the divider on the old Pune-Mumbai highway and landed in a ditch.

The incident took place on Sunday at 6.30 am in Sate village area. The vehicle was completely damaged.

The Wadgaon Maval police said that a group of six people were going in the SUV from Wanawadi in Pune to Lonavla. The deceased were identified as Chandrashekhar Duraskar, Ashok Balkrishna, Nagraj K Rao and Arun Nair, all residents of Wanawadi.

The injured persons were identified as Inwash Julion Mariya Susayan and Sunder Shankar Raskatla. Both of them are undergoing treatment at Talegaon Dabhade General Hospital.
According to the police, the incident took place as the SUV was going at a high speed. The driver lost control over the vehicle and it hit the road divider.

Senior police inspector Sopanrao More of Wadgaon Maval police station told dna, “Six people were travelling in the car from Pune to Lonavla when the driver lost control over it. The car was going at such a high speed that it was flung into the air after hitting the divider and landed in the opposite lane meant for traffic going towards Pune. The high speed made the car bounce in such a way that it passed a container truck parked on the roadside and fell into a ditch.”

“We found liquor bottles in the car. Considering this, there are chances that the people travelling in the SUV might have drunk and thus the driver lost control over the car,” More added. After the accident, the villagers rushed to the spot and took the victims out of the SUV. More added, “The injured persons were rushed to a general hospital in the golden hours. The injured were in critical stage initially but now they are stable.”
