Here’s your chance to learn more about the forts in our country. From Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Pramod Mande a heritage enthusiast, has captured intricate detailing and construction wonders of forts across all the regions in India.

Durgshrusti and Sanskruti Savardan Sanstha are organisations who have come together to hold Heritage Forts of India — a photography exhibition and seminar during the weekend.

Mande said that the exhibition, which starts on Friday, will continue till Sunday. “The exhibition is accompanied by lectures and seminars conducted. These are forts which have rare attributes right from their drainage systems to design and layout. They have been built to suit every weather and this is something we should learn. Today, a 25-year-old building falls off but these forts have been standing strong for a good 1,000 years,” said Mande.

The lectures will be on restoring forts, history of forts and how one should go about viewing forts. The idea is to create awareness about lesser known forts in the country. “We do not intend to set rules or dictate terms. All we want is people should realise the importance of heritage.”

FYI
The Akhanoor fort in Jammu Kashmir is located at the bank of river Jhelum and is made of more bricks and less stones.

Khorguve fort in Goa is another brilliant piece of Portuguese architecture which has beautiful capsule-shaped security cabins.
