Five-year-old Shreeya Deshpande successfully attempted the Guinness World Record (GWR) for 'Farthest Distance Limbo Skating under Cars' on Thursday morning in Kolhapur.

Shreeya skated 158 feet and 2 inches under 26 Tata Sumo vehicles, breaking the earlier record of Belgaum boy Ajit Konkane who had skated 126 feet 11 inches on February 17, 2011. She skated the distance in 23 seconds.

Daughter of an earthmoving machineries businessman father and fashion designer mother, Shreeya had been working towards the record for one and half years.

“It is amazing that our daughter holds the world record at the age of 5,” said Shreeya’s father.

A senior KG student of Vibgyor School, Shreeya was trained under skater brothers Mahesh and Bhaskar Kadam for 1.5 years. The distance between two vehicles was below 20 centimetres while the ground clearance of vehicles was below 35 centimetres as per GWR norms.

Shreeya is one of the many limbo skaters in India who has made the country rank 3rd in applying for breaking GWR.

According to GWR adjudicator (India) Nikhil Shukla, due to a growing number of applicants from India, GWR started a new website for the country two months ago. Around 60,000 different attempts are made for breaking GWR in India which goes on increasing.

The record holders get place on the GWR website while the Guinness Book of World Records compiles selected attempts of a year and publish it in October.

“I hope Shreeya‘s feat gets placed in it,” Shukla said.
