Pune: Two unidentified persons fired two bullets at a 31-year-old person identified as Anwar Mehmood Pathan on Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Cerebrum IT Park in Kalyaninagar. One of the bullets pierced through his left arm, leaving him injured. The police claimed that Pathan is out of danger and recuperating at a private hospital.
The reason behind the attack is yet to be known and a separate team has been formed to nab the attackers by the top brass.
Prima facie, the police suspect that past rivalry could be the reason of the attack. According to the police, Pathan is a resident of Nisarg Housing Society in Yerawada and was attacked in Basement-1. He had parked his car there and was on his way to ‘Beyond Fitness’ gym on the first floor of the building. The police said that Pathan runs a union of contract labourers in the area.
The incident took place between 8.30 am to 9 am in the morning. Pathan, who is a member of Beyond Fitness gym, parked his car and was moving towards the lift when the two unknown assailants fired at him from behind. While one missed him, the second grazed through his arm.
A security guard who came running down after hearing the gun shots said, “I saw Pathan was running towards the lift. A woman pulled him inside the lift to save him.”
Another guard said that the assailants entered from the entry gate on a motorcycle moved to basement -1. They escaped from the out gate. Police inspector (crime) Shivaji Shinde of Yerawada police station, said, “Pathan is a person with a shady character. We have checked the CCTV footage to identify the assailants but images are very blur.”
Deputy commissioner of police Manoj Patil said, “Pathan also has two -three cases registered against him.”
