Pune: Just a few days back, upmarket area of Model Colony was filled with mud and dirt that were removed from the storm-water drainage lines. However, after senior officials warned the contractors, the filth has been finally removed from various streets of the area.
In its May 20 edition, dna had carried a report about how the contractors were cleaning up the drainage system as a part of pre-monsoon work but they had kept the dirt on the roads instead of disposing it. After this, the PMC administration swung into action and they removed dirt from all the roads of Model Colony area.
Madhav Jagtap, ward officer of Ghole road ward office of PMC said, “After the issue came forward, I immediately contacted the contractor and warned him of action against him. He deployed his staff and on that day, entire dirt was cleared on the same day.”Local residents have also appreciated the prompt action by the civic administration. Jayantrao Mohite, member of advisory committee of Model Colony Parisar Sudharna Samiti said, “It is appreciated that the civic administration immediately removed the dirt which was lying on the roads of the Colony. However, there are some debris lying in various lanes of the Colony after the footpaths in these lanes were repaired nearly two months back. The debris are creating inconvenience to the local residents.”
When asked about this debris, Jagtap said, “ We have deployed a staff which is involved in group cleaning where we are cleaning all the dirt, debris and waste in the entire ward. We have selected areas and before rain, all dirt and debris will be removed.”
