Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi presented the civic administration’s draft budget of Rs3,248 crore for the fiscal 2013-14 to the standing committee chairman Jagdish Shetty on Thursday.

A provision of Rs983.54 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has been made in the budget.

Though, no increase in tax has been proposed, the earnings through the collection of octroi duty will be reduced by Rs100 crore as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be switching to local body tax (LBT) regime from April 1.

The estimated earnings through LBT is Rs1,200 crore. Under JNNURM, projects include bus rapid transit system (BRTS), metro, water supply, storm water management, drainage system, housing project etc.

“The revenue will be reduced this year as the civic body has abolished octroi and replaced it with LBT. Though the targeted earnings for fiscal 2012-13 was Rs1,300 crore. But owing to recession, the target could not be achieved,” said Pardeshi.

He said, “The civic body focuses on tax base sources through granting building permissions. Around 12.4% of the civic body’s revenue is expected from building permission. If the state government passes the resolution to regularise illegal structures, the revenue is expected to increase drastically.”

“The second phase of JNNURM will start from 2015. Presently, the ongoing projects will be completed,” he added.
