Following a five-year-old child’s fall from Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Rang Mandir during rehearsals at a school function, the Principal of EuroSchool, Wakad has now written a letter to the Municipal Commissioner to urgently look into the matter. In the interest of the child safety after the unfortunate accident, the school wants to convey that such lapse in safety norms at the auditorium can repeat.
dna has access to the letter sent to the civic authority which points out that while the school authorities did inspect the auditorium, which is the school’s standard practice, they did not notice the windows/facade in the green room. It further states that “there was no balcony”, keeping in mind the safety of children, the school chose options in the first level and the lower floors of the venue despite being shown other alternates in floors higher up in the premises.
The school has written to the Municipal Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) appraising him of the incident and urging him to take immediate, corrective actions at the said auditorium. Its primary focus is to ensure the recovery of the student. When asked about the letter, Bharat Kumawat, Chief Manager, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Rang Mandir said, “Blaming us is not a solution as the kids were cramped in a room without supervision. The room got overcrowded and that resulted in the breaking of the barrier leading to the fall.”
Arnav Buch (5) fell off a balcony from the green room in an auditorium where schoolkids had been practicing for the school’s annual function. The Euro School in Wakad went ahead with its annual day, drawing ire from some of the parents.
