This weekend, Puneites will witness its first equestrian event. Western Equestrian Premier League (WEPL) is the first tournament in India to include all three disciplines of equestrian – dressage, show jumping and eventing.
Sanyogeeta Kadu, member of Team Ceddar and a student of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, said, "There are other premier leagues in India to include dressage and show jumping, but there has never been any event, which can boast of organizing an eventing discipline in a league format. This show aims at providing all the budding equestrian riders to prove their caliber and give them a chance to test their horse's skill in various disciplines."
The event will take place at Col Khan's Riding Academy, which is fully equipped with show jumping fences, dressage markers and cross country fences. A former Indian national equestrian eventer and a living legend in the field of equestrian, Col Khan had won gold medal at 1982 Asian Games.
"The problem is that travelling all the way to Bangalore burns a hole in the pockets of riders, so this is an attempt to provide them a platform to practice and flourish," added Sanyogeeta.
