Dutt misses out on box office action in Policegiri

Though the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Policegiri was released on Friday, the actor himself was unaware of the response the movie generated at the box office.

Yerawada Central Jail authorities said that letters were the only source of communication with the actor and he received no letters on Friday that would inform him about the box office reaction to the movie.

Dutt is allowed only one visitor per month and no phone calls and hence letters are his only window to the outside world.
Meanwhile, the state jail officials rubbished recent claims in the media that there would be a special screening of the film on the jail premises, stating that it was not allowed in the jail manual.
According to the state jail officials, initially movies were shown to jail inmates, but the practice has been stopped.

Deputy inspector general (prisons) Rajendra Dhamne told dna, “Initially, we used to show social movie inside the jail to inmates. However, the practice was stopped recently. Now, the inmates are allowed to watch Doordarshan television channel in the jail.”

When asked about Dutt’s special cell and facilities, Dhamne said, “The actor has been lodged in a special cell and it does not have a TV set as well. Besides, he will not be allowed to come outside the cell for security reasons.”

Moreover, the Yerawada Central Jail authorities have claimed that they have neither received a letter from the film producer nor from the actor’s family requesting a special screening.

Yerawada jail superintendent Yogesh Desai told dna, “We have not received any letter about the screening of his film. Even if we received it, we will not allow it. It is not allowed in the jail manual.”
Policegiri is an action-packed film and Dutt plays the role of a police officer in the film.
