The dream chance of getting his first documentary entry in Goa and Macau film festival got shattered for Abhimanyu Tambe (24), one of the four victims who sustained serious injuries, after a drunk driver, Mahesh Marutirao Sardesai, rammed his car into other vehicles on Jungli Maharaj Road on Wednesday evening.

Nursing a left hand fracture caused by the reckless driving, Tambe will be unable to send his entry on time. Hailing from Satara, Tambe completed his two-year course in short film direction from Pune.

He wanted to make a documentary and send his entry for Goa and Macau film festival. Now, he will have to wait for next year.

Tambe said, “I was supposed to submit my documentary by the first week of December after preparing my pre-production plan. I had come down to Pune on Tuesday and was on my way to meet a film producer when the accident took place. The left hand fracture has left me handicap for a month. All my hard work has gone in vain.”

A 26-year-old woman who do not wish to reveal her identity has suffered serious head injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at Poona Hospital.

She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is kept under observation for the next 24 hours.The victim’s father rushed from Satara to see his daughter who is pursuing a medical course from Sane Guruji Shikshan Sanstha in Hadapsar.

“My daughter had resumed college last week after Diwali vacation. She wants to become a doctor and give free treatment to the needy,” he said.

Dr Ashutosh Pandey of Poona Hospital said, “The patient’s body is responding well to medication and the computed tomography (CT) scan reports are normal. She is likely to be discharged by Sunday.”

Reckless driver in police custody
Mahesh Marutirao Sardesai (38) of Bungalow number 03, North Main Road Koregaon Park, the driver of the car (MH-12-JC-5918) that injured eight persons, was produced in the court on Thursday. Senior inspector of Deccan Gymkhana police station said, “We have got his police custody for one day. He has confessed to driving under the influence of alcohol and said that the accident took place as the brakes had failed.”
