Pune: A close relative of former deputy chief minister of state, Vijaysinh Mohite Patil, lost Rs9 lakh after her domestic help stole her debit card and banking welcome kit, which contained the debit card pin number, from their house.
A complaint in this regard has been registered by Swayamprabha Udaysinh Mohite-Patil, with the Kothrud police station. The withdrawals have been taking place for over one and half years, and till date a total of Rs 9 lakh has been withdrawn from various ATMs, without the account holder even noticing about the transactions.
It was only now that the transactions have come to light, thanks to CCTV footage from some ATM centres, and the Kothrud police managed to arrest the domestic help.
As per the information given by the Kothrud police the suspect, Raju Arun Mane (28), used to work at the bungalow of Mohite-Patils in Kothrud till January 2013. As per the complaint, Mohite Patil had opened her account in HDFC bank in 2002, but she did not subscribe for mobile alerts.
“Mane who was working at the bungalow for last nine years stole her debit card along with the kit which had pin code number of the card and then till March 2014, he allegedly withdrew Rs9 lakh from time to time from various atm centres in the city,” said senior police inspector, Kalyan Vidhate of Kothrud police station.
The Mohite-Patils were in for a rude shock, after an accountant who was checking the accounts came to know that from one of the accounts, Rs9 lakh had been withdrawn over a period of time. He then alerted Mohite-Patils and the incident came into light. Vidhate said that after the case was registered, they started investigations and approached the bank. With the help of the transactions and the locations from where cash was withdrawn, the culprit was traced. “With the help of the CCTV footage, we then able to trace Mane, who turned out to be their domestic help and zeroed him down,” he added.
