Khadakwasla dam water level touches 90% mark

For the first time in this season, the irrigation department released 2,012 cusec water from Khadakwasla dam at 10:30 am on Monday.

The dam is filled up to nearly 90 per cent of its capacity.
Soon after the release of the water, people thronged at various parts of the city to see the increased level in Mutha river flowing through the city.

The irrigation department informed the PMC and the fire brigade officials before releasing the water. The water was released after performing a puja.

Four dams including Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar fall under the Khadakwasla irrigation system.
Khadakwasla system executive engineer BB Lohar said that since the catchment areas of all the four dams has received continuous rainfall, a level of 85 per cent would be maintained at Khadakwasla dam so that water can be released as and when required. “So far, a total of 21.14 tmc water is stored in all the four dams together which is 72.5 per cent of its total capacity,” he said. Last year on July 22, there was only 4.51 tmc water stored in all the four dams.
