Dabholkar's should not take Padmashree, says Amol Palekar

Veteran actor-director Amol Palekar on Wednesday appealed to the family members of the Dr Narendra Dabholkar against accepting the Padmashree declared for the late anti-superstition crusader since his killers have not yet been nabbed.
Dabholkar family, however, said the award was a symbol of the nation's faith in Dabholkar's primciples and it was inspired by the people's love for him, so they have decided to accept the award, though with deep anguish.
The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS) has released a CD titled, 'Prashna Tumcha, Uttar Dabholkaranche' during a function held on Wednesday. Amol Palekar released the CD in presence of Shaila Dabholkar and MANS working president Avinash Patil on the dais. The CD has 26 frequently asked questions with answers by Dabholkar.
Palekar, while speaking at the function appealed Dabholkar family against accepting Padmashree award and cited the fact that killers of Narendra Dabhokar have not yet been nabbed. Dabholkar's som Hamid while speaking to media persons after the function said, "Similar are the feelings of many in Maharashtra and we the family members are also accepting the Padmashree with a deep pain. It's true that the killers are not yet caught, but the award is the love of the countrymen. It is an honour by by the nation, and that is why we would accept it."
MANS along with all progressive organisations would stage protests on Thursday at the spot where Dabholkar was killed to mark completion of six months to his murder. The day long agitation named "Ek Upwaas Vedanecha" would start at 9.30 am.
