Cousin's wedding costs beautician her ornaments worth Rs6.5 lakh

She had come to dress up a bride for her memorable day, but a beautician who was also the bride’s relative paid a heavy price for the act. Her bag containing jewellery worth Rs6.5lakh was stolen by two boys and a woman. The bride is the daughter of Dhule district’s civil surgeon and the marriage was taking place in Pune.

The bride’s mother Dr Rekha Govardhan Gaikwad, a medical officer in state health services, told police that the make-up bag of her niece, who was the beautician at her daughter’s wedding, was stolen. The bag contained her gold and silver ornaments estimated to worth Rs6.50 lakh.

The wedding’s video footage showed an unidentified woman and two children in the age group of 7 to 10 years, stealing the bag.

Gaikwad is resident of Bagadiyanagar in Aurangabad lodged a case with the Sangvi police station against the woman and the two boys in the in the video. The incident took place on November 22. Dr Rekha is working as medical officer in Jalna and her husband, also a doctor, is working as a civil surgeon in Dhule.

Assistant police inspector Sunil Gade said, “On November 22, it was complainant Dr Rekha’s daughter Sayali’s wedding reception held at Ram-Krishna Mangal marriage hall. Dr Rekha’s neice, who is a beautician, had done Sayali’s make-up. She had kept the bag which contained gold chains, rings, mangalsutra and other gold ornaments worth Rs 6.50 lakh near the bride’s seat. After some time, she noticed the bag was missing. While scrutinising the reception video it was noticed that an unidentified woman with the help of two boys stole the bag.”

The police are making prints from the grabs and would circulate them to nab the culprits.
