Cops raid Lonavla dance bar

The Pune rural police raided a dance bar at Kanhe Phata near Lonavla on old Pune-Mumbai highway on Sunday night and detained eight bar dancers along with 30 high-profile customers.

On a tip-off, additional superintendent of police (Pune rural) Vijay Magar along with a team of 20 personnel, raided Deepa Bar & Restaurant, which is being run for more than one-and-half years. The joint is owned by Kamal Kapoor and managed by Satish Pujari. 

Magar said the bar is spread over 1 acre and is located at Kanhe Phata, 55 km from Pune. Magar said the organisers used to bring in dancers from Goa and Mumbai daily and organise their stay on the second floor of the ground plus one structure of the bar.

The high-profile customers were also detained. Magar said the bar has performance licence till 10 pm and yet after that the dance floor functioned.

Magar said a case will be filed against the detained persons under relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act, 1950.
