Even after the Pune traffic police department made changes in the traffic plan on roads approaching Hinjewadi IT Park to avoid congestion, the woes of techies continue as they have to spend more than an hour to make their way through snarls. The changes made by the traffic police are not solving the problem.

The 2-km stretch from Hinjewadi flyover to Shivaji Chowk is the worst-affected area.
Traffic jams in the area are common between 8 am and 12.30 pm and from 5 pm to 10 pm.
Rohit Kulkarni (35), an IT professional and a resident of Sangvi, said, “It is a nightmare to travel on this route as the issue of traffic jams in the area is getting worse every day. On an average it takes more than an hour to cover a distance of 2 km.” Mitali Chakraborty (25), another IT professional and a resident of Aundh, said, “Every day we get stuck in traffic jams. Things are worse in the evening. It takes more than three hours in the office cab to reach my home, which is merely 12 km away. By the time I reach home I have no energy left to cook and have to skip dinner almost every day.”

The traffic police department claims that even after making changes in the area the main reason for traffic snarls is that the road infrastructure is poor.

Assistant police inspector SJ Patange said, “More than 1.5 lakh vehicles go to Hinjewadi every day. The 2-km stretch from Hinjewadi flyover to Shivaji Chowk is a bottleneck. Besides, there are several electricity poles that are located in the middle of the road. We have sent several applications for shifting these poles.”
