Constable MIA for 3 years faces probe

In a first of its kind of incident, a top brass police officers of Pune police have issued a preliminary inquiry against a police constable who was absence for three years and did not report about it. The officers have claimed that the constable cited medical reason for his absence , however, the constable is alcohol addicted and thus he did not come on works.

The constable who has attached with Shivajinagar police Headquarter had gone missing in the year of 2010 and since then he did not come on duty. The constable HK Jagtap, had submitted his application with Pune police to join him the force.

Speaking to dna, deputy commissioner of police (Headquarter 2) Shirish Sardeshpande said, "We got Jagtap's application a few days ago. Along with his application, Jagtap had joined medical certificate. Thereafter, we came to know that Jagtap is alcohol addicted and hence he was absence. We have conducted medical test on Jagtap at Sassoon hospital and the doctors' report states that Jagtap is psychologically fit to continue service."

Deshpande said that though we have rejoined Jagtap in the force, we have issued an preliminary inquiry against him. "We have asked police inspector (crime) of Shivajinagar to conduct inquiry against him and thereafter we will conduct departmental inquiry against him. His behaviour is not acceptable and it is against the rules." Deshpande said.

The Headquarter has 2,500 policemen staff and are being used for special bandobast and law order reason. Some senior officers are of the opinion that the headquarter is the generally a place for 'punishment' .

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) ranked officer who did not want to divulge his identity told dna,"The policemen who have poor performances at police station level or inquiry against them, they send to headquarter as a punishment." officer said.
