Defeat is followed by blames and it is likely to be evident during the Western Maharashtra convention of the Congress party to be held in Pune on Thursday (July 24). All the party big-wigs in the region including Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and former Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde would be attending the convention.

The party would be organizing region-wise conventions to review the preparedness of the party for the ensuing assembly elections in the state. The Democratic Front Government of the Congress-NCP alliance would complete its term in first week of December 2014. Taking in to account the fact that election code of conduct could come in to force anytime after the end of this month, Congress is organizing these conventions in all the regions of the state.

The convention of the Western Maharashtra is being titled as Sankalp Melawa by the party but it is likely that defeat of Sushilkumar Shinde in his hometown Solapur, criticism of Chief Minister Chavan by none other than Minister Narayan Rane who has resigned as a Minister, party's debacle in the state which was evident when it could win only two seats in the state and other issues are likely to surface during this convention. Despite the fact the party leaders are taking all precautions to prevent any anti-voices during the convention, it would be interesting to see if Shivaji Nagar MLA Vinayak Nimhan attends it with show of strength. Nimhan was considered as staunch supporter of Narayan Rane who later came close to CM Chavan is reportedly in contact with BJP leaders and BJP state unit president Devndra Fadnavis had to explain party position on these reports.

The state unit president Manikrao Thakare, AICC in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash, Minister for Forests Patangrao Kadam, Minister for Cooperation Harshawardhan Patil, Minister of state for Home Department Satej Patil, former Minister Anantrao Thopte, state unit women's wing president Kamal Vyavahare would address the party workers.
