Finding the solution to ongoing problems of garbage collection is the top priority for new Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikas Deshmukh who took the charge of municipal commissioner today.
After taking the charge, Deshmukh held meetings with the PMC officials and the residents of Hadapsar to find out solution on the ongoing agitation by the Hadapsar residents who are not allowing PMC to dump the garbage.
After taking the charge, Deshmukh interacted with media in which he made it clear that solid waste management will be his priority.
Deshmukh said, " Piling of garbage is a major issue and solving the problem of solid waste will be my priority. Soon after taking the charge, I held a meeting to solve the problem of Hadapsar but the meeting was not fruitful. I again will be holding meeting regarding the same issue tomorrow to find solution as early as possible."
Apart from garbage collection issue, Deshmukh also spoke about the issue of road repair, metro, BRTS, water supply and encroachment.

Garbage: In order to find new spaces for processing the garbage, Deshmukh said that we will be holding meeting to find new spaces in five different areas. Our aim will be to acquire the require land as early as possible. Apart from that we are also identifying stone quarries and reserved land where garbage processing in small quantity can be done. Apart from that we are also trying to make cluster of fringe villages which will be included in PMC and we can start processing unit in that cluster.

Metro: speaking about speeding up the process of Pune Metro project, Deshmukh said, " Metro is a need of the hour and presently I will be making sure that the special purpose vehicle is formed as early as possible. Apart from me, the urban development secretary also will be part of the SPV. In case of metro, my priority will be on speeding up the whole process of Pune Metro."

Water supply: PMC has already undertaken the pipeline work from Bhama Askhed dam to PMC limit which will add more water for the city. Apart from that we will have to explore additional resources from where we can get additional water. I will also be looking into making the water treatment plant fully efficient so that nearly six TMC water is treated and that can be released for farmers. If we managed to treat six TMC water, we can get additional water for the city. Apart from that the citizens also should make sure that they avoid wastage of water.

Encroachments: Deshmukh made it clear that he will not tolerate any encroachment in the PMC limit. There will not be any protection to any kind of encroachments. When I was collector, that time also I had demolished over 20 buildings and other structures even though I did not have enough infrastructure. However now the corporation has its infrastructure ready, We will be able to take action strictly.

Road repair: soon after taking the charge Deshmukh held a meeting with the road department and took a review of the ongoing road digging work. He has also given directions to form a committee which will involve officers from MSEDCL, traffic police and BSNL. Deshmukh also will be taking a review meeting about the ongoing road digging work.
