Specialist doctors working with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)-run hospitals may get a 100 per cent hike in their salary.

A proposal in this regard will be tabled in the standing committee which will be discussed further in the meeting to be held on June 4.

The staff with the PCMC’s health department were pressing for the demand for the past several years.

The move is aimed at curbing private practices of doctors.

According to the proposal, a total of nine specialist doctors are working with the PCMC-run hospitals. Each of them will be getting an approximate salary of Rs60,000 per month if the proposal is approved.

Last month, civic chief Shrikar Pardeshi had issued a circular warning doctors of stringent action if they are found practicing privately, even if done under the name of their family members and relatives.

Pardeshi has also asked all doctors working with civic hospitals to provide the details of their address, including those of their family members along with the name of their clinics, hospitals, nursing homes etc.

Moreover, the doctors have been asked to submit undertakings that he or she shall not be engaged in any kind of private practice. If anyone is found providing fake information, then strict action will be taken.

According to the civic officials, it is observed that the medical staff may not have the OPDs or clinic under their name, but might serve at the same attached to their family members. Hence, the details of the family members have been asked for.

The state government recently banned private practices of doctors working with civic body-run hospitals. To curb private practices, the government has decided to increase the non-practicing allowance for all doctors in the government service. The allowance will be 35% of the salary given to the doctors as per the sixth pay commission.

Hike for ITI staff
Along with the medical experts, the PCMC has also proposed 100 per cent hike in salaries of the staff of the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in Morwadi and Kasarwadi. A total of 15 superintends are working at these technical institutes.
