City top cop grapples with 'influential' colleagues

Irked by his subordinates using political connections to put pressure on him for internal transfers before end of tenure, Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol has issued a special instruction for the officials of his department. Warning them against expecting transfers before March or April, the order warns them against using any kind of influence, else they will have to face the music.

While crimes like house-break-ins, robberies and chain snatching are on the rise, the commissioner is struggling to handle his department’s officers. This is the second communique where Pol had to warn his officers for their behaviour. 

A few days ago, Pol had issued an order to officers of the rank of additional commissioner of police, deputy commissioner of police and assistant commissioner of police and had asked them to follow his instructions strictly. 

In his order, Pol had said, “This is wrong that the officers are not taking commissioner’s order seriously.”

Talking about Pol’s special order, a DCP ranked officer who did not want to divulge his identity told dna, “There are a few inspector ranked officers who are putting political pressure on Pol for their internal transfers. They met the commissioner and gave their applications to him. The number of such applications has increased. As a result, the commissioner has to issue a special order for them.”
