After the sad news of the demise of the spiritual leader of the Bohra community, Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin reached the city on Friday, people of the community from the city left their offices. Shopkeepers downed shutters and put up messages regarding the sad demise. Students were called back home.

Bohris were seen rushing to the railway station, where there were long queues for tickets to Mumbai.

Buses too were cramped with passengers. Families were seen at the Pune-Mumbai Cool Cabs taxi stand. Sensing the demand of the hour, the Maharashtra State Road Transport had more Shivneri buses in its fleet.

Vilas Patil, senior depot manager of Shivajinagar ST depot, said, “As soon we got information about the rush at the bus stop, we added 20 Shivneri buses from Pune-Dadar.”

Javed Amin Sheikh, member of the Pune-Mumbai Cool Cabs committee said, “All of a sudden people started coming to the taxi stand. In less than one hour over 100 buses were booked for Mumbai.”
