As the controversy regarding water supply to Pune city has refused to settle down, Vinita Deshmukh, Lok Sabha candidate for Nav Bharat Party, has alleged that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is trying to hide details of the water supply. She  stated that her party would start a stir if water cuts are forced on the city after Diwali.

After the recent district planning and development committee meeting, deputy chief minister and guarding minister Ajit Pawar announced water cuts for the city, but after a huge row over the decision, Pawar had to take back his decision.

Deshmukh said she went to PMC to get details of that meeting, which was attended by PMC officials. She said, “When I asked for details under Right to Information (RTI), the officials of water department refused to give details, stating they do not have minutes or written documents of that meeting. When I approached the irrigation department, they provided minutes which stated that the PMC has to start treating 6.5 TMC ft sewage water before March 2014.”

“We have decided to file a RTI query every month to get the status of the sewage water treatment. If PMC fails to treat the water and if Puneites are forced to face severe water cuts after March 2014, we are going to start an agitation against it. There is a rumour that water cuts are going to be forced on Puneites after Diwali and if so, we will start an agitation from that day,” she said.
