Pune: Three men, including a 23-year-old son of a police officer attached to the CID were arrested by the cops from the Swargate police for allegedly stealing Rs10 lakh from a godown last week. The godown, which is located on the premises of Market Yard, is owned by the city general secretary of Nationalist Congress Party, Brijmohan Atal. The cops managed to catch hold of the suspects with the use of CCTV camera footage.
The suspects have been identified as Kaustubh Kurlekar (28), Shubham Hule (19) and a 17-year-old minor. All are three residents Bibwewadi. As per the police, the incident had taken place in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
DCP (Zone II) Shirish Sardeshpande said, “Kurlekar is unemployed, and his mother is an officer with the CID and his father is serving in army. Hule has just given his HSC examination and worked at Atal’s godown.”
“Since Hule knew that Atal keeps cash in the godown, he hatched a plan with Kurlekar and the minor suspect, sneaked into the godown and made away with Rs 10 lakh cash. They even broke the lock, to make it appear like a burglary,” he said. The trio then distributed the cash equally. Dipak Nikam, senior police inspector with the Swargate police station said that the suspects purchased expensive smartphones and gold chains using the loot.
The three had kept the stolen cash in the minor’s house, who is a son of a businessman. In the interrogation, he spilled the beans that he wanted to live luxurious and lavish life.
