The Swargate police have arrested a lady doctor practising Ayurveda in a child theft case. The doctor had allegedly given forged birth certificate to a couple who had stolen three-month-old baby from Swargate.
The arrested doctor has been identified as Kanchan Murlidhar Ghegade (28), a resident of Balajinagar Nagar. She works as a trainee doctor in Purohit Hospital at Parvati.
The police had arrested a couple for allegedly kidnapping and selling a three months old baby of one Rekha Raju Paradi (25), who hails from Parbhani. Paradhi had come to the city to visit her brother for Diwali and she was looking for a job in Pune.
Her baby was stolen on October 23 from Mitramandal Chowk near Sarasbagh. The culprits had lured the mother of the the baby by informing her they will get her a job for which she has to keep her baby with them and later they went away with a baby.
Later police arrested, Manish Gandhi (40) and his wife Paresha (35), both resident of Molidina Road in Camp.
During investigation Gandhis revealed that they had stolen the baby to gain Rs 3 lakh from Navin Gudikandula (40) hails from Hyderabad and a currently resident of Dhankawadi.
All of them on Tuesday, were remanded to Magistrail custody. Dr Ghegade’s lawyer Milind Pawar has moved her bail application which is kept on Wednesday.
Ram Pathare, inspector in-charge ofpolice station said, “Dr Ghegade is working in Purohit Hospital for past six months. The role of Ghegade is that she issued fake medical certificate which claimed that the stolen baby was born at Gudikandula house without verifing or inspecting Gudikandula. Her name was cropped up after we arrested the autorikshaw driver Avinash Dashratmeshkar (42) who had took Rs 4,000 from Gandhis assured to make enrollment of the stolen baby birth record. Dashratmeshkar revealed her name that he had approached Ghegade to make fake certificate.”
