After PMC chief Vikas Deshmukh said that he won't stand encroachments, dna brings to his notice the footpath outside forest minister Patangrao Kadam's house
Soon after taking charge as the commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Vikas Deshmukh said that he will not tolerate any kind of encroachments.
Now that he has made his stance clear, dna has a piece of information for him which he would like to take up with his team- the encroachment on the footpath right outside the house of forest minister Patangrao Kadam.
Kadam's house is situated opposite Brihan Maharashtra Commerce College (BMCC) and the footpath outside his house has been encroached with planter containers which has been put up to add beauty to the bungalow.
This compels the pedestrians to use the road as there is no space for them on the footpath. Besides, one part of the footpath is missing as a wall has been erected.
Local residents and activists said that it is a dangerous spot as there is a blind turn just outside the bungalow.
A group of local residents who did not wish to reveal their identity said, "Right outside the house, there is a sharp turn and often pedestrians fail to spot a vehicle from the opposite side . However, still we have to walk on the road as the footpath has been encroached and it is missing at some part."
Prashant Inamdar, convener of city-based NGO Pedestrian First, said, "It's time for the new commissioner to set an example for his subordinates by taking action against such encroachments rather than just taking action against hawkers and vendors. He has to redefine encroachment in a comprehensive manner and remove the ones done by influential people."
When PMC commissioner Vikas Deshmukh was asked about the issue, he said, "I am not aware of the issue. I will ask my officers to check the area and then shall I take an action."
