Pune: After the state government gave clean chit to ministers in alleged multi-crore irrigation scam, State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Devendra Fadnavis, has came down heavily on Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, calling him the Manmohan Singh of Maharashtra. Fadnavis has claimed that Chavan is also responsible for the alleged scam as he is trying to protect the ministers involved in it.

Fadnavis was in Pune on Wednesday to support a mega alliance candidate in the constituency—Chandrakant Patil.
On the backdrop of state
government giving clean to the ministers, after it tabled the report of Madhav Chitale Committee in the recently concluded Assembly session, Fadnavis said, “For last four months, the state government was sitting on the committee report and on the last day of the session, it tabled it before the house. This shows the malafide intentions of the government. We had submitted the evidences of the scam to the chief minister and he had given us an assurance of taking action. But he has mislead not only us but the house and the entire state.”
“The chief minister is primarily responsible for the scam as instead of taking action against the ministers who are involved, he kept protecting them. There is nothing wrong if we call him Manmohan Singh of the state,” Fadnavis said.
Fadnavis will be writing to the chief minister demanding a CBI inquiry. “ Since the state government has to write to the center for a CBI inquiry, we will be writing a letter to the chief minister. We will wait for a reasonable period and even after that if the chief minister does not act, we will move to the court.”
