Though Puneites had high expectations from this year’s railway budget, all that has been offered to them is peanuts. While Pune did not get a single new direct train, two new trains have been announced for Mumbai which will be traveling via Pune.

In the Union railway budget 2013-14, railway minister has announced 67 new trains for the country. Of these, only two trains will help Pune get better connectivity to places like Hubli and Solapur.

The newly announced Mumbai- Solapur Express will be traveling via Pune, six days a week. Moreover, the Hubli- Mumbai train  will travel via Miraj and Pune once a week.

Besides, Puneites can enjoy better connectivity to Nanded, as the train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Latur which goes via Pune has been extended to Nanded.

Apart from these new trains which will go via Pune, the railway minister has also announced survey of new railway line from Saswad to Jejuri so that some trains can be diverted on the route and thereby congestion can be avoided.
