Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state unit president Sudhir Mungantiwar on Thursday came down heavily on Shiv Sena and said, “President Pranab Mukherjee is repaying Shiv Sena’s support to him with interest by visiting Belgaum.’’ He said Shiv Sena should learn a lesson against supporting Congress presidential candidates.

Addressing a press conference in city, Mungantiwar said that Shiv Sena supported Mukherjee’s candidature and he is not responding to Shiv Sena’s appeal not to visit Belgaum. He said that BJP was of the view that the border issue between Maharashtra and Karnataka is an emotive issue for both the states and when the matter is pending before the court, one should wait for the court’s verdict.

While criticising Shiv Sena for its support to Pratibha Patil during her election to the post of president, Mungantiwar said she has stepped down from the post but did not yield to Shiv Sena’s demand of execution of Afzal Guru, the mastermind of attack on Parliament. He said Shiv Sena should learn that supporting Congress candidates would not solve problems of Maharashtra.
Talking about the border issue, he said BJP state unit has made its stance clear on various occasions.

Even though there is BJP rule in Karnataka, all parties in both the states are equivocal on this issue in the interest of the state. Mungantiwar pointed out that the border issue was not political as it could not be sorted out even when there was Congress government in both the states as well as Centre.

Condemns ban on channels
After repeated questions on preventing broadcasting of Marathi channels in Belgaum by the Karnataka government, Mungantiwar said any act suppressing media should be condemned and the party condemned the decision.
