Meet this Pune bikers’ group who are taking help of school children to reach  out to their parents to create awareness about using helmets while riding. Members of this group, along with the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), are reaching out to students and educating them about the importance of helmet so that they can teach the same to their parents.

Members of the bikers’ group felt that it was important to educate children by catching them young so that they can never forget what has been taught to them.

Sangram Devkar, member of Pune bikers’ group said, “We always think about spreading awareness among youngsters and people living in different societies, but we tend to forget children. School children are fast learners and whatever we teach them, they can spread it fast. Apart from that when they grow, they themselves will start wearing helmets while riding.”

Devkar further added, “We are showing them slides which makes it easy for the children to connect with the training session. Moreover we are telling each one of them to tell their parents to wear helmet whenever they are going out on their two wheelers.”

The Pune RTO is also lending its helping hand to the members of the bikers group as they feel that it is something for the betterment of society.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Anil Valiv said, “Instead of holding special drives and catching hold of people and collecting fine from them for not wearing helmets, it is more important for people to understand the importance of wearing helmet.” Valiv added, “The reason why we are focusing on school children is that they will remember to tell their parents to use helmets when they are going out and parents will also listen to them.”
