Big catch: 390 kg ganja seized, 1 held

Nearly 390 kg of ganja that would have been consumed by hundreds of youngsters in parties during the New Year celebrations, has been seized by the anti-narcotics cell of crime branch of city police. 

The stash was found with Lalchand Arjundas Ramnani (51), a resident of Pimpri Camp who was arrested on charges of possessing 390 kg of ganja which estimated worth of Rs 31 lakh. The seized substance was apparently brought in bulk for December 31 party. A team of police officials under the guidance of additional commissioner ( crime ) Shahaji Solunke, deputy commissioner of police ( EOW and Cyber Cell ) Sanjay Shinde and senior police inspector Sunil Tambe raided arrested person’s house and confiscated the banned material. 

Ramnani was arrested from room no 2 in Lalbahadur Shastri Dharamshala in Pimpri where he had stored the contraband goods, stacked in several sacks.

A separate case has been registered under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Pimpri police station against Ramnani. 

DCP Shinde said that Ramnani was engaged in large scale sale of the banned product and used to lace it with other drug inducing material and ferry it in the name of ‘tarang’ which was popular with different paan vendors in the city.

Police inspector Sunil Tambe said, “Ramnani had procured the substances from Madhya Pradesh. Ramnani is a resident of Pimpri and he claimed to be a trustee of the Lalbahadur Shastri Dharmashala. He has been the main supplier to various clients and his customers right ranging from IT professionals from labourers. 

Tambe added this is one of the biggest raid in recent past.
