Bharati Vidyapeeth starts Academic Staff Training College in Pune

To address the aspect of quality and competence development of teachers, who are central to knowledge creation in higher education, city’s Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) has set up an Academic Staff Training College (ASTC) at its Dhankawdi campus and BVDU will be the first among the 140 deemed universities in India to have started such a college. 

The training will be focused on the human capital such as administrative heads, faculty members and staff. This college is established for providing opportunities of learning to the teachers community. The programmes are either generic for all faculty members or discipline based, focusing on core sectors such as engineering, management, medical, architecture etc. 

The college was inaugurated on October 19 by University Grant Commission officials, Renu Batra and G Shriniwas. Dean of the Management faculty, BVDU, Sachin Vernekar, is appointed as the director of the new college. 

This new college will train academic staffer brand new techniques of teaching, promote use of ICT in teaching. Director, ASTC, Sachin Vernekar said, “The college will bridge the gap between academia and industry by enabling teachers in providing requisite skills among students to enhance their employability. ASTC is the first deemed University in India that will have initiated the Academic Staff College.”

About the new technique of teachings to be incorporated at ASTC, Vernekar informed that there will be ICT based digital technologies for learning, project based teaching methods, group based learning and experiential learning modes with focus on learner centric modes of teaching. He added that the college will develop various modules of learning and training based on contemporary learning requirements.
