Pune: Over a thousand residents living in the posh localities of Ganga Kingston, Raheja residential societies and Cloud 9 have demanded cement concretisation of the main muddy road, which is the only lifeline of their daily travel. The area is now home to several IT professionals and businesssmen. The PMC on its part has maintained that the road construction project has been sanctioned and are waiting for the final nod from the municipal commissioner. The PMC has earmarked a 100 meter wide road measuring 5 kilometers starting from NIBM extension which goes up to Undrigaon. The road currently is a picture of loose gravel comprising limestones. The recent rains in the city have washed away the sand leaving only hard stones with sharp edges on the road.

Residents of the area allege that pointed stones were causing punctures and made commuting difficult. With streetlights not functioning properly during the night, commuters and residents face a nightmarish experience passing through the area.Shakur Shaikh, a resident of Raheja Vistas said that it is almost two years that the road project was announced but nothing much has been done by the PMC. The streetlights play hide and seek every day putting a serious question mark on the safety of the residents.Prominent social worker Sainath Babar who has been taking efforts to ensure concretisation of the road said that PMC has been going slow in the work and urged the civic body to complete at the earliest.

" The citizens are facing a tough time using the road on a daily basis. There have been incidents wherein commuters have fallen down and got hurt. The street lights should be installed at the appropriate spots along the road and road concretisation should be carried out in the monsoon itself. It has been our experience that the PMC keeps telling the residents that the work will be completed after monsoon , " he added.

City Engineer Prashant Waghmare when contacted said that the PMC was giving final touches to the road construction proposal acting upon some recommendations made by the engineering department. " It is an important and only connecting link to Undri from NIBM road . The feasibility report is complete and a final allocation of funds is being done. The work is expected to be completed in next six months, " he added.
