Pune: Under an educational partnership with the Indian film industry, Australia’s La Trobe University is presenting a scholarship in the name of Amitabh Bachchan to an Indian citizen every four years, to develop a thesis related to media, digital technology and communication. The scholarship will be presented by Bachchan himself, who has agreed to work with the Victoria (Australia) based varsity, and help support the education of the next generation of Indian leaders.
This time Roshan Kumar from Ranchi is the recipient of the prestigious (A$200,000) Amitabh Bachchan Scholarship. He will undertake a PhD into the potential of using social media to better communicate health messages to India’s estimated 80 million social media users. Kumar graduated from La Trobe with a Masters in International Business in 2010.
Honoured to receive the Amitabh Bachchan scholarship, Kumar said, “It will help fund my research into improving the health of thousands of people living in India. Social media has immense potential to act as a powerful communication tool to share health information with millions of people.”
La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor, John Dewar said that they were honoured to have Bachchan at the Melbourne campus of the University, to present the scholarship to Kumar.
